General Manager, Beulah Mine
Scott has worked in the surface coal mining industry for 40 years. He started his mining career at the Rosebud Mine in 1979, as a Shop Laborer. Scott has extensive experience working with explosives and reclamation teams, tipples, equipment operations, and as a Lead Operator of the “Advanced Coal Conversion Process” – a Department of Energy sponsored Clean Coal Beneficiation project. Scott was promoted to the position of Safety Specialist in 2012, responsible for coordinating and conducting new miner, experienced miner and Annual Refresher Training. He also supervised the Behavior Based Safety Team Initiative and provided guidance on safety management systems including the implementation of these programs in the group.
Scott was promoted to Safety Manager of the Kemmerer Mine in 2017 with the objective of advancing Kemmerer’s safety culture and improving the regulatory relationship with the Mine Safety and Health Administration. Scott has also been involved with Mine Rescue for the past 30 years including leadership roles and incident command. In 2019, he relocated to Coal Valley as Safety Manager before accepting the General Manager position at Westmoreland’s Beulah Mine.
Scott holds a Montana and Wyoming Surface mine Foreman License along with a Mine Safety and Health Administration Instructor’s Certification.
