Keith E. Alessi
Chief Executive Officer

Keith Alessi currently is the Chief Executive Officer and a Director of Westmoreland Coal Company. Mr. Alessi, a dual Canadian/US citizen, is located in Westmoreland’s Canadian headquarters in Edmonton, Alberta. Mr. Alessi has led Westmoreland since 2007. In addition to his work with Westmoreland, Mr. Alessi was an adjunct lecturer at the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan, Virginia Military Institute, and Southern Virginia University as well as an adjunct professor at the Washington and Lee University Law School. Prior to joining Westmoreland, Mr. Alessi had served as a senior executive officer for over 30 years at a number of public and private companies. He currently serves as a member of the board of directors of MWI Veterinary Supply, Inc. and has served as a director on numerous other private and public company boards over the past 30 years. Mr. Alessi has a MBA from the University of Michigan and a BS from Wayne State University. He is also a Certified Public Accountant.

Kevin A. Paprzycki
Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer

Kevin Paprzycki is Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer in Englewood, CO.  He earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Accountancy from Case Western Reserve University and his Masters of Business Administration from the University of Utah.  He joined Westmoreland as Controller and Principal Accounting Officer in June 2006 and was named Chief Financial Officer in April 2008. Mr. Paprzycki became a certified public accountant in 1994, and a certified financial manager and a certified management accountant in 2004.

Jennifer S. Grafton
Senior Vice President, Chief Adminstrative Officer and Secretary

Jennifer Grafton is Senior Vice President, Chief Administrative Officer and Secretary in Englewood, CO. She graduated from the University of Michigan Ross School of Business with her MBA with High Distinction, University of Denver Sturm College of Law, Order of St. Ives, and received her Bachelor of Art’s Degree from the University of Puget Sound. She joined Westmoreland Coal Company in December 2008 as Associate General Counsel and was promoted to General Counsel and Secretary in February 2011. Ms. Grafton focuses her practice on SEC compliance, corporate governance, Board management, risk management and employment/ labor relations.

John A. Schadan
Executive Vice President

John Schadan joined Westmoreland in April 2014 as Senior Vice President, Canada Operations and was promoted to Executive Vice President on August 1, 2014. Mr. Schadan’s career has encompassed both the western Canadian coal business as well as engineering and construction for a major international firm, and spans a variety of disciplines including mine engineering, environmental and regulatory approvals, business development, marketing, commercial contract negotiations, establishing joint venture partnerships, operations and general management. Mr. Schadan is a registered Professional Engineer in the Province of Alberta and holds a mining engineering degree from Queen’s University. He currently sits as a Director for both the Alberta Chamber of Resources and Safe Saskatchewan.

Joseph E. Micheletti
Executive Vice President

Joseph Micheletti is Executive Vice President. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mineral Processing Engineering from Montana College of Mineral Science and Technology.  Mr. Micheletti is responsible for all six of Westmoreland Coal Company’s U.S. mining projects, overseeing the safe, cost effective, and environmentally responsible operation of the company’s mining activities.   He joined Westmoreland in August 1998 and has held several key leadership positions at several Westmoreland mining projects, including Senior Vice President of Coal Operations since June 2011, before being promoted to Executive Vice President on August 1, 2014.  Mr. Micheletti has worked in the production, maintenance, processing, and engineering disciplines of the mining industry for 24 years and sits as a Director of the Rocky Mountain Coal Mining Institute.

Jason W. Veenstra
Chief Financial Officer, Canada

Jason Veenstra is Chief Financial Officer, Canada based in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. He is a Chartered Accountant with over ten years of management and finance experience in the industry. Jason joined Sherritt International as a site controller for a nickel refinery in June 2006. After progressing through various roles, he assumed the role of Director, Business Development for Sherritt’s Coal division and was named the division’s Chief Financial Officer in June 2013. Jason has a Bachelor of Commerce degree with a major in Accounting from the University of Alberta in Edmonton and articled at Ernst & Young in Edmonton to complete his Chartered Accountant designation in 2004. His areas of expertise include providing financial leadership, economic assessment of mining projects, governing financial budgets and providing concise business information to executive management, Boards of Directors and Audit Committees.

Lynette J. Stanley-Maddocks
General Counsel and Assistant Secretary

Lynette Stanley-Maddocks is General Counsel and Assistant Secretary.  Her private practice focused mainly on commercial, anti-trust and regulatory issues in the utilities, resources and infrastructure sectors. After practicing, mostly in private practice, in Canada and Australia for 14 years, she joined Sherritt Coal in February 2012 as Senior Counsel. Since joining the coal business, Lynette has focused on standardization of contracts and legal processes, regulatory and legal risk management and compliance, and providing support for executive management, securities reporting and board reporting. She received her JD from the University of Saskatchewan College of Law in 1998.

Matthew J. Levar
Vice President - Sales

Matthew Levar is the Vice President – Sales in Englewood, CO. He earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology/Chemistry from St. Cloud University in 1974. He joined Westmoreland as the Director of Sales in April 2012 and was named Vice President –Sales in January 2015. Matt started his career in coal mining in 1982 with Mobil Coal Producing Inc. and since has had a wide variety of management positions in operations, engineering, marketing/sales and coal trading/origination.

Jennifer M. Barton
Vice President - Operational Excellence

Jennifer Barton is Vice President – Operational Excellence in Englewood, CO. She graduated from Colorado State where she received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance and graduated from New York University where she received her Master of Arts Degree in Business Education with an emphasis in Corporate Communications. Ms. Barton joined Westmoreland in August of 2009 as a Business Analyst and was promoted to Vice President of Technology in February of 2011. Ms. Barton has over 12 years of experience in IT including ERP management, software consulting, support, training and project management. Her current focus is in operational business process improvement through technology and process standardization utilizing effective project management.

Morris W. Kegley
Vice President of Land

Mike Kegley is Vice President of Land in Englewood, CO.  He attended Indiana University and received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and a Juris Doctor in Law. He joined Westmoreland Coal Company in 2005 as Assistant General Counsel and was promoted to General Counsel in August 2007. Mr. Kegley’s coal Industry experience has included broad exposure to legal issues related to mid-western surface and underground operations, and western operations on public and Native American lands.

Loretta E. Miiller
Vice President of Human Resources

Loretta Miiller is Vice President, Human Resources based in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. She is a Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) with numerous years of management experience. Ms. Miiller joined Westmoreland’s predecessor company in 1974 initially working at the Estevan mine in southern Saskatchewan. During her career, she has experienced a number of ownership changes, amalgamations, mergers and acquisitions. In 2005, she accepted a promotion and transfer to the Edmonton office and her current key areas of responsibility include managing organizational change, industrial relations, labour negotiations, compensation and benefits strategies and talent management.

Grant J. Schlamp
Vice President - Information Technology

Grant Schlamp is Vice President – Information Technology. He graduated from SIAST Campus and received a diploma in Electronics Engineering Technology and received his Supervisory Development Citation from University of Alberta. Mr. Schlamp has over 20 years of experience in Information Technology and has held positions in IT Management, Infrastructure, Networking, and ERP administration.

Mary A. Hauck
Vice President - Human Resources

Mary Hauck is Vice President – Human Resources in Englewood, CO.  She received her Bachelor of Art’s in Business Education from the University of Northern Colorado and a Master of Art’s Degree in Computer Resources Management from Webster University.  Ms. Hauck joined Westmoreland in March 2008.  She is a certified Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR).

Russell H. Werner
Vice President, Corporate Controller and Chief Accounting Officer

Russell Werner is Vice President, Corporate Controller and Chief Accounting Officer in Englewood, CO. Mr. Werner became corporate controller in 2011. He currently leads the accounting and SEC reporting functions for the company. He earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting from National American University. Mr. Werner became a certified public accountant in 1994. Before joining Westmoreland in 2006, Mr. Werner worked in both the public and private accounting sector.

Dondi R. Kratzenstein
Vice President - Strategic Sourcing

Dondi Kratzenstein is Vice President – Strategic Sourcing in Englewood, CO.  She graduated from Colorado State University where she received her Masters of Business Administration in Production and Operations Management, in addition to a B.S. in Business Management.  She is CPIM Certified (APICS) and is Lean Belt and Black Belt Certified.  Ms. Kratzenstein joined Westmoreland in February of 2013 as a Director of Supply Chain prior to being promoted to her current role.  She has over 20 years of experience in Supply Chain Management including leadership experience in diverse areas including Manufacturing, Sales & Operations Planning, Procurement, Logistics, Warehousing, Subcontracts and Six Sigma.

John Jutila
Vice President - Equipment Asset Management

John Jutila joined Westmoreland Coal in 1998 and currently serves as Vice President of Equipment Assets Management for Canadian and U.S. operations. He graduated from the College of Engineering at Montana State University where he received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Construction Engineering Technology with an emphasis in project management. Mr. Jutila has 34 years of experience in the construction and mining industry. Since he joined Westmoreland, Mr. Jutila has held several key leadership positions at different Westmoreland mining projects, concentrating in maintenance and production areas. He has also served as past secretary and vice president of COSMET, an international heavy mining equipment owner’s group. Prior to mining, Mr. Jutila held several supervision and field engineering roles for a major international firm. Mr. Jutila is a United States Marine Corp veteran.
